Pitched roofing

A precedent set in Roman times has proven its worth to this day: using clay tiles for inclined roofs. They have been laid in Switzerland since the Middle Ages and have stood the test of time like no other material for pitched roofs with varying angles of inclination.

But slate slabs also have a long success story on inclined roofs in Switzerland; they first appeared as a roofing material in the 11th century. In addition to slates from English, French and Belgian quarries, slate from the Saint-Gotthard Massif were used to protect the inhabitants from wind and weather. Gotthard slates were a little thicker and gave houses a stronger character. Concrete tiles or cement slabs are another alternative for pitched roofing. These were first used in 1945 and originally came from Staudach, by the Chiemsee lake in Bavaria. Staudach cement boards are laid as a honeycomb covering, which gives the roof a striking appearance. Forgotten for a time, this technique is currently experiencing a great revival and now decorates numerous modern buildings.

This is also rapidly reflected in the cost of fossil fuels such as oil and gas, which can be noticeably reduced.
